Keeping Pupils Informed about PESSPA
Pupils can access information about in school and out of school sports opportunities by looking at our PESSPA (Physical Education, School Sports and Physical Activity) display board in the hall which Mrs Reynolds updates regularly.
PESSPA information for parents and families
Our school Facebook page contains the most up-to-date information about school sports. The following PDF will give parents and families some ideas for websites jam packed with ideas for encouraging pupils to move at home! Please take a look.
The following site also gives information about local sports opportunities for pupils.
The Government is providing funding to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
For further details, please visit our Premium Allocations section where our Sports Premium information is located.
Sport and P.E Curriculum
Pupils have two hours of designated P.E time per week. We try to offer pupils a broad range of P.E topics to develop their skills in different areas. We use the Core Tasks to help us structure our planning and ensure that we teach those skills in a sequential way. Take a look at our Core Task planning and some photos of our fabulous pupils enjoying these tasks in their P.E sessions.
We are proud of our pupils participation in school competitions last term (ran by the Sports Partnership). We came 1st place in tennis and 2nd place in both basketball and cricket. Well done to all pupils involved!
After School Sports
We are working hard to provide pupils at Thornley Primary School with opportunities to try different sports activities out of school hours to both enhance their skills and promote the benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle. For an up-to-date list of what after school sports clubs we are offering please see our School Clubs page.
Some of our past sporting competitions and achievements
We are so proud of our pupils and the effort they put into school sports. We are also very grateful for the support we receive from the Easington School Sports Partnership who organise a lot of our inter school competitions as well as providing staff with support for teaching specific and specialised sports skills. We thought you might like to see some of our sporting achievements from previous school years. Please take a look at our gallery of images.
School Sports Award
We earned our School Games Gold Award in recognition of our commitment to school sport, physical education and competitions. Well done to all pupils and staff but a special thank you to Mrs Reynolds for all the work that she continues to do to promote sports and the importance of physical education in school.
Cross-curricular sports and movement
We try whenever we can to encourage our pupils to get up and moving in all areas of the curriculum not just P.E and after school sports clubs, From Santa Fun Runs at Christmas time to virtual walks to Norway as part of our work on the Vikings! Take a look…
Every year we give our pupils in upper KS2 (Y5 and Y6 pupils) the opportunity to visit Robinwood Outdoor Adventure Centre in Cumbria. Here, pupils get the chance to participate in physical challenges such as orienteering, nightline, archery, climbing wall, crate building as well the infamous ‘Piranha pool’. Take a look at our past visits!
