Reading and Phonics

Here at Thornley Primary School, we encourage a love for reading and reading for pleasure.

We have regular visits to the local library to loan books and hear story tellers. Each classroom has a designated reading area with lots of ‘free reader’ books, as well as our ‘staged readers’.

We use Oxford Reading Tree and Project X books. We have a weekly reading club as well as having plenty of opportunities to read as a class, in a group or 1:1 with an adult.

If you would like to know more about reading in our school, please ask one of our pupils to tell you more or contact Mrs Tateson (literacy coordinator).
